“A Whistle a Day” at Parrot Bay Tanning Salon
In 1987, Gary Scholfield brought home a beautiful Blue Front Amazon Parrot and named him Buddy. A few months later, Gary received a big surprise. Buddy laid an egg and proved to his owner that he was not a male bird after all. Now, almost 25 years later, Buddy is the proud mascot for Parrot Bay Tanning Salon, located at 719 South Broadway Street. “Buddy has been with me for years. The whole theme of Parrot Bay Tanning was created around Buddy” stated Gary, co-owner of Parrot Bay Tanning Salon. Buddy can be found daily in the lobby of the salon talking away to the customers. If you are one of the lucky ladies of the day, she may even offer you a compliment. “She likes to whistles at the ladies” according to Gary. (more…)

One of the first memories Lisa Anshus Frank can recall from her childhood is playing in the basement of Anshus Jewelers.
“I was a little too curious to be around all the jewelry, so Dad set up a great play area for me,” she recalls. “As I grew up, my responsibilities within the store also grew. By the time I was in junior high, I experienced waiting on my first customer. They purchased a bracelet and to this day, I can still remember our conversation.”
Lisa is the granddaughter of Nels Anshus, the original owner of Anshus Jewelers. (more…)
